COPPER FOIL MANUFACTURING FOR THE PC INDUSTRY; ELECTROPLATED COPPER FOIL. As former chair of the IPC Copper Foils Committee for over 20 years, Bernie was able to learn the art of manufacturing copper foils for the PC industry via the electrodeposit method. He has given seminars on this subject.

EPOXY LAMINATES & FIBER LAMINATES. Bernie did extensive research in the 60s and 70s on the lamination of glass fibers and woven impregnated glass fibers. The same skills are used today to formulate a copper clad laminating sheet for PC manufacturing. Similar skills aid in the manufacturing of multilayer, flexible and rigid/flex PC boards.

SPECIFICATIONS IN THE PC INDUSTRY; LAMINATE TESTING. Bernie is very familiar with current military specifications and ISO 9000 Certification Series relating to laminates, copper foils, multilayer lamination design standards, test procedures, and qualifications.

LAMINATING MACHINERY. Bernie has spent over 25 years using various types of laminating presses to produce laminates, multilayers, flexibles, heat shields, flush commutators and rigid flexes. He emphasizes the need for good accurate presses, as well as vacuum assist and full vacuum equipment.

FLOW SOLDERING. Bernie did extensive research on this subject, and has considerable consulting experience leading to the successful resolution of problems in this area.

GEL COATS. Gel coats are rarely used today in the PC industry, except on the copper foil and is denoted as a "resincoated foil." Resin coated foils are used as a cover lay sheet on the outer layers of a multilayer board.

The Role: Manufacturing Engineer, Printed Circuit Board and Assembly Mountain View

Google has an immediate need for a highly resourceful Manufacturing Engineer to be responsible for the manufacturing process for Google hardware products. The ideal candidate is a selfstarter who jumps in and gets the important stuff done while relishing the challenging and fun startup environment.

Responsibilities:

Identifying and qualifying PCB, PCA and box build vendors.

Coordinating the interactions between Google engineering, purchasing, test engineering, other internal functional groups and outside vendors.

Resolving manufacturing problems by applying knowledge and skills, escalating design, manufacturing, and product test issues to other people within the organization when appropriate.

Focusing on process improvement which will result in reducing process cycle time, increasing quality and reducing cost.

Performing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis, Design for Cost (DFC) analysis, and process optimization for quality and productivity improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

BS degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial technology.

Recent expertise in PCB fabrication and assembly, and box build processes.

Good understanding in PCB layout and DFT.

Knowledge in quality and statistical process control.

Experience working with contract manufacturing and ODM vendors.

Experience with product lifecycle management systems.

Outstanding customer service skills / verbal and written communication skills.
