From the early days back in 1984, to today, we have
chosen CAD systems that allow our designers to design
and not be restricted by obsolete software as new
technologies have developed.
Circuit size or complexity are no problem to us,
we regularly design large dense cards, some with over
30,000 component pins. We have laid out cards with
numerous MicroBGA抯 and large BGA抯 with over 1600 pins.
Our designs have included a multitude of design constraints,
including:
matched lengths, matched Impedances, differential
pairs, high speed routing with bus speeds of 1GHz,
microvias, blindvias, Isolation barriers, high current,
analogue areas, video signals and also RF design up
to 3GHz.
Because of the growing constraints now placed on
designs, we NEVER use auto-routing software, all our
boards are 100% manual routed by our experienced designers.

Schematic Layout
We can help with either symbol generation, whole
library creation or laying out a complete project
of schematic sheets based on engineering hand sketches
or in another format such as PDF's.
While working on CAE files, as well as symbol details
we can embed useful information into the schematics
to make design interfaces flow smoother such as footprint
and BOM details.
The schematic data, is the "master", all
other data used during the design process is generated
from this. Therefore as long as the schematic is correct,
all the other data will be correct including the PCB
design and BOM's. .
This process is called "end to end design"
and is the policy we adopt.
Reverse Engineering
We have extensive experience in legal reverse engineering
of CAD designs or printed circuit boards.
This enables you to replace either lost/ damaged
filmwork or convert data from other CAD systems to
any of our systems.

Library creation
Some of our clients find that using their engineering
personnel to create schematic symbols and PCB footprints
is a miss use of their talents and resources which
are better employed designing circuits.
For the last two years we have been operating a library
creation and maintenance service for our clients.
The importance of creating and maintaining a library
cannot be overstated, engineering staff then have
access to a resource that is current and controlled,
this eliminates problems associated with locally generated
data.
By using data and pdf's obtained from the component
manufacturer we create the schematic symbols and PCB
footprints, and in the case of our Mentor and CR5000
clients, the parts database entry.
The library work can be done to either the clients
own specification, or in the case of PCB footprints,
the clients preferred assembly house specification,
or to the IPC standard.
We then pass the up-dated library back for use by

Printed Circuit Layout
The connections on the PCB should be identical to
the circuit diagram, but while the circuit diagram
is arranged to be readable, the PCB layout is arranged
to be functional, so there is rarely any visible correlation
between the circuit and the layout.
The CAD PCB layout consists of several layers, for
illustration purposes the holes, outline and component
identification layers are usually combined into one
diagram.
Using the latest Orcad Layout program for creating
the PCB to specification of your choice, then creating
your Gerber files in either RS-274D or Extended formats.
If you don't have an Orcad Schematic file, your board
may also be layed-out with Netlists from almost any
Schematic Drawing Software.

Printed Circuit Board Routing
PCB layout can be performed manually (using CAD) or
in combination with an Autorouter.
We have the most top-of-the-line auto-routers in
the industry and they are used at least partially
in most designs. An auto router saves a tremendous
amount of time routing traces on the board. The autorouters
are impressive tools but it is important to note that
they are just that - tools; and it is the judicial
and masterful layout engineer that uses an auto-router
(or recommends not to use it) that gives you, the
customer, the value of the tool.
Often a portion of the board routing is performed
by hand since areas such as high speed analog and
power supplies do not lend themselves to use of auto
routers. Despite great leaps in the capabilities of
routing tools, frequently there is no substitute for
the application of an experienced layout engineer's
"hands on" approach to routing in critical
areas.

Schematic Capture
Using the latest Orcad Schematic Capture program to

ECO changes. It is recommended to have your schematic
in the Orcad format if planning to use back-annotation

We can use the CNC machines to cut sideways with special
toolbits called routers. This can be to mill out large
holes, slots, cutouts, or even to profile the individual
circuit boards on a panel, after which the are often
left connected by small lug's. Soon after we received
our first Mape CNC drilling machine it was dutifully
named Plip, which then became our non-industry standard
word used to describe those connecting lug's. To this
day I don't know what the correct word is.
The normal and cheapest tool size used for profiling
is 2.4mm but we also stock a lot of other sizes. Smallest
size normally used is 0.6mm, but if possible its a
lot cheaper to use a larger size. The machines or
maybe the operators are very clever so far we have
successfully routed out all the weird and wonderful
shapes that have been requested. Its worth noting
that routing with the smaller tools does incur a price
surcharge.
If your printed circuit board has an odd profile
or complicated internal slots it can often greatly
assist if your create an extra Gerber layer with the

The shadow line is a state of the art plating line,
which replaces the old type of electrolyses plating
system.
It is a conveyorised machine that coats a layer of
carbon through the holes in the circuit board panel,
creating a perfect connection from one side of the
panel to the other .. in every single hole on the
circuit board.
Because it is conveyorised it ensures that every
printed circuit board that passes down the line receives
exactly the same amount of time in each chemical chamber.
Every printed circuit board is manufactured with the
same rinse pressures and drying times.
This ensures complete consistency across every batch
of PCB, eliminating any variables that can affect
your Printed Circuit Boards operation. The timescale
involved with our new PCB process have reduced from
hours to minutes. Allowing us a quick turnaround while
maintaining absolute quality in every PCB we manufacture.
Precision drilling - Our PCB Manufacturer technology.
The new state of the art (CNC) drilling machine ensures
consistently accurate drilling to your original specifications
on every PCB.
The auto tool changing head selects the correct tool
to match your PCB requirements and adjusts the speeds
and feeds to suit. After selecting the appropriate
tool it laser checks the diameter and length as well
as concentricity and replaces the tool if it fails
any of the quality checks, to ensure every printed
circuit board is drilled perfectly.
This machine is so precise that it is able to drill
at 150,000 rpm down to 0.1 mm and up to 6.6 mm.
The granite bed and air bearing spindle ensures a
positioned accuracy measured in microns. The enables
us to manufacture even the most complex Printed Circuit
Board.
The controller on the drilling machine keeps a record
of the status of each of the 450 different tools at
its disposal. Automatically changing a tool when the
maximum required number of hits has been achieved.
This means there is no possibility a hole can be made
in your PCB with a worn drill bit
As every hole is drilled, the laser head detects
if the tool is chipped or broken, replaces it immediately
if a fault is detected, and continues where it left
off.
Your Printed Circuit Board will be photo image resisted
to ensure perfect solder resist registration with
no pad encroachment, for perfect service mount assemble
for your PCB.
To achieve a flat, smooth, shiny surface on your
PCB to aid your assemble process, all boards are then
hot air levelled.
