Surface mounted LEDs are arrayed in special patterns to provide a relatively high resolution dot-matrix visual display and/or multi-segment character displays. Especially abbreviated solder bonding pads are utilized to obtain a higher density packing of the surface mounted arrays in at least some embodiments. Abstract:

An expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly, comprises: a print circuit board, used to carry the following devices; at least a light emitting diode, disposed on said print circuit board; a first connecting device, disposed on one side of said print circuit board and coupled to said light emitting diode; and a second connecting device, disposed on the other side of said print circuit board, coupled to said light emitting diode, and capable of interconnecting with said first connecting device, wherein said first connecting device and second connecting device can be utilized to expand said LED modules to accomplish any assembly indicating figures, words, numbers, or symbols.
Claims:

1. An expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly, comprising: a print circuit board, used to carry the following devices; at least a light emitting diode, disposed on said print circuit board; a first connecting device, disposed on one side of said print circuit board and coupled to said light emitting diode; and a second connecting device, disposed on the other side of said print circuit board, coupled to said light emitting diode, and capable of interconnecting with said first connecting device, wherein said first connecting device and second connecting device can be utilized to expand said LED modules to accomplish any assembly indicating figures, words, numbers, or symbols.

The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the shape of said print circuit board can be bar type, L type, .perp. type, or type, and said print circuit board has at least one positive polarity pad, one negative polarity pad, and circuit traces for coupling to said light emitting diode.

3. The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein said light emitting diode can be mono color or full colors LED.

The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 2, wherein said first connecting device can be a gold finger or pin header, and has a positive polarity contact and a negative polarity contact through which to connect with said positive polarity pad and negative polarity pad respectively, and therefore couple to said light emitting diode.

The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 4, wherein said second connecting device further comprises a slot having a positive polarity pad and a negative polarity pad extending outside said second connecting device, through which to connect with said positive polarity pad and negative polarity pad respectively, and therefore couple to said light emitting diode.

6. The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 5, further comprises a housing having a room open in both sides to provide the placement for said print circuit board, and a through hole on the surface of said housing for said light emitting diode to be exposed.

7. The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein said first connecting device is hiding in said housing, and said second connecting device is exposed outside said housing.

8. The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein both said first connecting device and second connecting device are hiding in said housing.

9. The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein both said first connecting device and second connecting device are exposed outside said housing.

10. The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 6, further includes an control box having at least a controller and a connector, wherein through the connection of said connector with said first connecting device or second connecting device, said controller can control the colors and lighting time of said light emitting diode.

11. The expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein said housing is made of insulating material, and the shape of which can be bar type, L type, type, or type to accommodate said print circuit board.
Description:

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001]1. Field of the Invention

[0002]The present invention relates to an expandable LED module for arbitrary display assembly, and more particularly relates to an expandable LED module, which can be connected to one another through connectors to accomplish any assembly indicating figures, words, numbers, or symbols.

[0003]2. Description of the Related Art

[0004]At present, the common light emitting diode (LED) bars have a plurality of LED's, and a layer of glue on the bottom for sticking on the buildings to provide decoration or illumination in the nights. Through the control of an external controller, the assembled LED's can display varying lighting patterns.

[0005]However, said LED bars, being in bar shape, the assembly of which is limited to shapes like square, circle, diamond, triangle, etc. Besides, said bar-shaped LED's are usually packaged in serial lines when delivered from the factories, so the users have to cut them according to the length needed, and then assembly them to the wanted shape; once the length is decided and cut, then it is not changeable, especially not expandable, so, when the cut length is not sufficient, it may become unavailable and cause a waste. These are the cons of the known art.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

LED Display Assembly Complete MacBook 13" Aluminum 2GHz/2.4GHz The project aims to build a mechanically scanned LED display that can function as an analog and a digital clock.

Explanation
As an analog clock, it can display seconds, minutes, hours, and hour markers while the hands run through all other display data. As a digital clock, it can display time, weekday, date, and year wherein the Time/Date format is in European style. Every 4 minutes, the full size 64x32 logo changes over to a 96 bit wide scrolling message. The year display runs around while the scrolling message is active.

The device is featured with PIC16F876-20 microcontroller, separate DC motor to drive the rotor, dial scanning, synchronization in the form of a 480-pulse optical shaft encoder, LED bar with 35 rectangular dual LEDs having 32 green & 3 yellow, diameter of 1m across, power transfer to PCB via 3 ball bearings, and rotation speed of 300-400rpm.

The brightness of the LED can be controlled using an LM317 adjustable voltage regulator. Since the ball bearings will not always conduct perfectly, the main power supply should be at least 12V. the noise on the arm is being suppressed by a series resistor and capacitor.

Whether you're evaluating your current CM, or sourcing a specialist PCBA manufacturer, especially one you have not worked with previously, the first thing to check out is certifications. Manufacturers with a commitment to quality should have an ISO 9001:2000 certification and adherence to an IPC-6000 series level of inspection. Having this certification shows a general commitment to producing quality products.

If your industry requires more specific certifications, such as MIL-Spec, RoHS compliancy, the TS 16949 for automotive or the ISO 13485 for medical, you will be pressed to look beyond the norm for PCBA providers. Even if your industry does not require these more strenuous certifications, choosing a manufacturer that meets them will also ensure a higher quality product. If you don't find Certification information on the prospective manufacturer's web site, call and inquire directly. If they are not certified, and you are not familiar with them, outsource elsewhere!

Alternatively, search out as your CM a company that is an LED manufacturer/packager, or has extensive experience in LED PCBA. Using a CM who is a manufacturer or packager of LEDs provides assurance that their experience manufacturing LEDs will translate into improving the overall assembly of your product.

Unfortunately, the number of LED manufacturers/packagers providing CM services is relatively small, which may send you back to looking for a CM with experience building LED PCBAs. Here are some important things to look for:
